My Top Five Food Network Shows

  1. Everyday Italian with Giada De Laurentiis - I love this show and I love this host. I love the recipes because they're easy and the meals are dishes I know my family and friends will love. Giada's recipes can accommodate a simple lunch or a formal dinner. I don't feel overwhelmed by Giada's recipes and the ingredients required. I know I won't need to fly to Italy to buy that specific spice just to make that dish. Not to mention that Giada has the best smile! She makes cooking look like so much fun.

  2. 30-Minute Meals with Rachael Ray - Any meal that can be prepared in 30 minutes is for me!! Rachael's recipes are easy and all American (or in my case - all Canadian). Her bubbly personality adds flair to this show and makes you feel like "if she can do it, so can I !"

  3. Ricardo and Friends - Ricardo!! Ok, I want to be one of Ricardo's friends! I admit I find some of his recipes a bit challenging, but for all you 'chefs' who are up to the challenge, cooking one of his dishes is worth it! His recipes are delicious and his charismatic personality has me glued to the TV. Love the accent too!

  4. This Food that Wine with Angie MacRae and Stacey Metulynsky - I love wine! And if you love wine, you love to serve the right wine with the right food! This is the show for all those wine connoisseurs. The hosts introduce the viewers to a variety of wines and pair them with just the right dish. Not only that, they give you the recipe for the dish. It's all great!

  5. Jamie at Home with Jamie Oliver - This time this cutie is cooking at home, with simple, accessible ingredients, including fruit and vegetables that he recently started to grow in his kitchen garden. Just seeing his beautiful home is enough reason to watch the show, not to mention all the delicious, easy to cook meals he shares with his viewers.

    Top Five Favorite Actors

    1. Leonardo DiCaprio - Has received several Oscar nominations, but still to take one home! I personally think he was robbed!! Just watch his performance in The Departed, Blood Diamonds, Aviator, Titanic, Gilbert Grape, I can go on. Come on people! Leo was listed among Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in The World. Every movie Leo makes is worth seeing, he never disappoints! Leo received double nominations in last years SAG Awards and Golden Globe awards! This guy is not just about his charming, good looks, he is extremely talented, not to mention a committed environmentalist. What a man!

    2. Johnny Depp - He won Best Actor honors (Golden Globes) for his performance in his very first musical, “Sweeney Todd.” this year. Perhaps, one of the most versatile actors of his day and age in Hollywood, his mysterious personality and sexy good looks has earned him People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive title.

    3. Mark Wahlberg - Ok, this guy is my teen crush! I'm so glad that he continued to stay in the spotlight and mature into one hot hunk with acting talent! Acting along side my fave actor Leo Dicaprio in The Departed, Mark held his own. Loved him in Fear too. And we can't forget about his ripped, sexy body in those Calvin Klein undies! But seriously, Mark has earned recognition as a talented actor in Hollywood and picked up some great roles.

    4. Benicio Del Toro - Besides having the coolest name in Hollywood....I fell for this guy way back when I saw him in Excess Baggage, but it was his Oscar winning performance in Traffic that catapulted him to mega stardom. With his somewhat shy, esoteric mannerisms, Benicio can make a woman's heart melt. If you've seen him in an interview you know what I mean. He is definitely one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood.

    5. Mike Myers - Well, he's Canadian, so that's 10/10 right there!! He's totally adorable. And of course funny, definitely a sexy trait in a man. Mike Myers: Actor, comedian, screenwriter and producer - can you say brilliant? He is the mastermind behind the creation of hilarious characters such as Austin Powers and Dr. Evil. Top Five De-clutter Tips

Don't let clutter hold you back. It's time to let go and move on to success!
    1. Clean out your closet. This is a space that clutter tends to pile up. When an item doesn't seem to have a place in our home we tend to throw it in the closet, afraid to let it go. If the item doesn't have a place in hour home, most likely it has no place in your life. If it has lost it's purpose then let it go. Hanging on to 'junk' just hangs on to negative energy in your home. Let go of old clothes and shoes you never wear. Keep the ones that make you feel good about yourself. This is a great opportunity to give to charity. Someone else can get good use of those clothes.

    2. Clear your basement and attic - in Feng Shui the basement represents the foundation to your life. Any stuck energy here will be rising up through your home and affecting every aspect of your life. Time to clear the space so positive energy can flow through it. Make use of the basement as a playroom or tv room or games room. The fellowship that occurs here will create positive energy that will rise up to the rest of your home.
    3. De-clutter your schedule - do you have too many things on your to-do list? Are you saying yes to projects and tasks you want to take on, or you feel you have to in order to please other people? Start saying 'no' to tasks that bog you down. Whether it's to stop and meditate for 10 mins or read a book or sip on a cup of tea, create some 'me' time in your day. You won't be succesfull if you're feeling pressured and unhappy.
    4. De-clutter your workspace. This will be affecting your creativity, efficiency and prosperity. How much time do you waste looking for information? A clear, neat space will create productive energy to flow in your office.

    5. De-clutter you mind! Are your thoughts running around wild in your mind? Do you find it hard to be still and concentrate? Always thinking about what to do next or worrying. A cluttered mind will definitely hold you back and create negative energy. Start journaling, it's a great way to put sense to all 'stuff' going through your brain. It's also a great way to release the negative thoughts, consider it released once it's written down. Now your mind will have clarity and you'll see what is really important to you and worth using up your energy on.

Top Five Things that Make a Restaurant Family Friendly

Any parent knows that going out for dinner with the kids can turn from a success story to an exhausting, embarrassing ordeal in a flash. To make the experience easier, picking restaurants that are family friendly is a must.

    1. A kid's menu! This is important. Kids can be picky. And they don't have large appetites, so they don't need a huge serving. And they always want dessert! You want a meal that includes the drink and dessert with it - value is important, it can get costly for a family to go out to eat. A family friendly restaurant will carry a kid's menu with a good variety of meals. You want to look for a menu that includes popular dishes that you know your kids will like, ie, mac and cheese, pizza, chicken nuggets, pasta.
    2. Quick service. You can't expect your kids to sit patiently in one place for too long. Especially toddlers. A restaurant that is familiar with serving families will recognize the need to have your meals to you sooner than later. You won't know this except from experience and once you do you can decide which restaurant will become a "regular" for your family.
    3. Reasonable prices. Eating out these days can be costly. Your bill can quickly add up once taxes and tips are added. A restaurant that offers decent food and decent prices is important.
    4. Family friendly seating. This one is important to our family. We prefer booths. Privacy is nice so that you're not bothering other patrons. Comfortable seats helps prevent fidgeting. One thing I found annoying is when a restaurant doesn't have highchairs.
    5. Offers toys or activity to do before meals come. I like when a restaurant offers the kids coloring pages and crayons. That keeps them quiet and busy while you're waiting for your meals. Good idea!

Top Five Ways to Increase the Value of Your Home

Renovate the kitchen. . Kitchens are the hub of a home. Kitchens are a major selling point. Buyers want more than a place to cook, they want space for eating and hanging out with. And when buyers notice the updates of a new kitchen they see the savings for them and are willing to pay the extra price of a home with a renovated kitchen.

Renovate the bathroom. It is a definite plus for a buyer. It's a turn off to see a dingy, old bathroom with worn out tiles. The new demand in bathrooms is a fancy, hotel style look - pedestal sinks and free standing or jacuzzi tubs.

Install laminate floors. Carpet is out and laminate is in. Why? Laminate is more durable. Laminate has more visual appeal and has a longer life than carpet. Ever walk into a home and you can tell the carpet is worn even though it's clean? Carpet eventually needs to be replaced. Laminate holds its appeal.

Improve your home's curb appeal. The first thing a buyer notices is the exterior of a home. A messy, grubby landscape looks like extra cost to a buyer. Keep gardens maintained. Keep outdoor paint looking bright. Replacing the front door with a new, catchy color makes a huge difference.

New paint indoors. Use colors that flow together and aren't too tacky or bright. Repair any chips or holes in walls. New paint indoors makes a home look new all over again!

Top Five Ways to Go Green at Home

We all know the effects of Global Warming on our environment. People are becoming more conscious and wanting to do their part in reducing the negative effects of Global Warming. The best place to start is at home. You can save energy and the environment with these simple ideas.

    1. Be an expert on recycling. Place recyclable items in the proper bags or containers for garbage collection. If you're not sure if a particular item is recyclable, research the internet. Most items have a symbol right on them. Be sure not to throw them in the garbage.
    2. Switch to natural and environmentally friendly cleaners. There are several 'recipe's' for cleaners using natural ingredients that you can find on the internet. Here's a useful link: www.queenofclean.com/ . There's a variety of non-toxic cleaners in the market today.
    3. Avoid using plastic bags. Once in the environment, it takes months to hundreds of years for plastic bags to breakdown. Try to resuse the ones you already have or switch to reusable grocery bags.
    4. Start a compost. Composts can greatly enhance the physical structure of soil. They provide nutrients and can reduce/bind specific pollutants.
    5. Conserve energy. Turn off the lights when not needed. Unplug cell phone chargers when not in use (they suck up energy as long as they are plugged in). Don't run water unnecessarily. Reduce energy consumption in your home and be energy conscious.
